Chicago Wolves goaltender Jake Allen was announced as a member of the 2013-14 American Hockey League First All-Star Team on Thursday, as voted on by AHL coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities.

The 23-year-old netminder has appeared in 49 of the Wolves’ 70 games this season and posted a 30-16-3 record, 2.09 goals-against average, and .926 save percentage. ALLEN was selected to start the 2014 AHL All-Star Game in February and leads league goaltenders in wins, minutes (2,958:41), and shutouts (6) while ranking second for goals-against average, saves (1,295), and save percentage, setting career-bests in almost every statistic.

ALLEN has backstopped his way into the Wolves record books this season. On Saturday, he joined Kari Lehtonen (2004-05), Ondrej Pavelec (2007-08), and Wolves general manager WENDELL YOUNG (1995-96, 1997-98, 1999-2000) in the 30-win club. On April 1, he tied the franchise record for shutouts in a single season with his sixth whitewash, pulling even with YOUNG (1999-2000) and teammate Matt Climie (2012-13).

The Fredericton, N.B. native has amassed an 81-74-10 record, 2.56 goals-against average, and 15 shutouts in 169 career AHL games spanning four seasons with Chicago and Peoria. Additionally, he posted a 9-4-0 record, 2.46 goals-against average, and one shutout in 15 National Hockey League games with St. Louis last season, garnering a selection to the NHL All-Rookie Team.

ALLEN is the fifth Wolves player and first goaltender to receive AHL First All-Star Team honors. The elite group is comprised of defenseman Travis Roche (2004-05), left wing Brett Sterling (2006-07), right wing Darren Haydar (2006-07), and center Jason Krog (2007-08).

The AHL’s 2013-14 First All-Star Team is rounded out by defensemen T.J. Brennan (Toronto) and Adam Clendening (Rockford), left wing Mike Hoffman (Binghamton), center Travis Morin (Texas), and right wing Colton Sceviour (Texas).
