Tale of the Tape: Jan. 23

Saturday, Jan. 23, 5:00 p.m. Bojangles’ Coliseum

Chicago looks to remain unbeaten against Charlotte as the weekend series concludes tonight at Bojangles’ Coliseum. The Wolves have won all three games this season by a combined 16-8 count.

The Wolves have won five straight in the series and captured nine of the last 10 meetings dating to the 2013-14 season. The teams won’t meet again until Feb. 21 in Chicago.

After losing eight consecutive games on the road, Chicago has turned the tables and won back-to-back road games against two of the hottest teams in the Central Division. Charlotte had won 13 of 16 games prior to Chicago’s come-from-behind win last night, and Grand Rapids had won 14 straight home games before falling to the Wolves, 4-3 in overtime on Sunday.

By The Numbers

0: Official attendance from last night’s contest, which was closed to the public due to the winter storm which hit the East Coast. Approximately 150 fans did show up for the game, and were allowed into the building.

Player Spotlight

#11 Zach Boychuk – Left Wing

Zach Boychuk might have been frustrated by his slow start to the season, but he’s making up for it midway through the year.

The franchise’s all-time leading scorer, who struck first in Charlotte’s 4-3 shootout loss to Chicago on Friday night, didn’t record his first goal of the year until the 17th game. The winger bounced all around the lineup, hoping to spark some offense, and he appears to have found a home, surprisingly enough, on the fourth line.

Emerging as a playmaker more than a goal scorer, Boychuk ranks fourth on the team in assists with 13 while also chipping in 7 goals.

Player Spotlight

Danny Kristo

#29 Danny Kristo – Right Wing

A 2-goal, 3-point performance Friday from DANNY KRISTO was reminiscent of a similar Herculean effort from the right winger in November. During a road trip to San Antonio (Nov. 6-8), KRISTO scored a pair of game-winners in overtime.

In both of those games, the Wolves scored with less than two minutes left in regulation to force OT.

It’s the second time this season KRISTO has scored twice in a game, the other instance occurring Dec. 30 in a 5-2 loss at Rockford.
