TALE OF THE TAPE: MARCH 8

Tuesday, March 8, 6:00 p.m. Bojangles Coliseum

Chicago sets its sights on fifth place in the Central Division with a pair of games at Charlotte, starting with tonight’s game at Bojangles’ Coliseum.

Chicago trails Charlotte by 3 points for fifth place in the standings and the Checkers also have one game in hand.

At season’s end, the Central Division’s fifth-place team will claim a Calder Cup Playoffs spot if it has a better winning percentage than the Pacific Division’s fourth-place team. At present, fourth-place San Jose stands at .559 while Charlotte sits at .526.

The Wolves have won four of the five meetings in the season series, which includes a 3-2 shootout win on Feb. 21 at Allstate Arena in the last encounter between the teams.

This week’s games mark the last visit for Chicago to the Queen City. The Wolves posted a 4-3 shootout win and dropped a wild 6-5 affair during their previous trip to Charlotte on Jan. 22-23.

By The Numbers

17: Span of games since the last time Chicago scored more than 3 goals in a game (4-3 win at Iowa on Jan. 26). The Wolves scored 4 goals or more six times in 18 games to start the season.

36: Total number of possible points available for the Wolves, who enter the last quarter of the season with 18 remaining games

42: Number of players who have worn a Wolves jersey this season – the most since the 2012-13 campaign when 47 players appeared in regular-season games

756: One-way miles from Chicago to Charlotte. The Checkers are the second-most distant divisional opponent for the Wolves, behind Manitoba (863 miles)

#32 Andrew Miller – Right Wing

The Carolina Checkers were busy bees at the AHL trade deadline.

The Checkers could have as many as six new faces in the lineup tonight when they take on the Chicago Wolves, with forward Andrew Miller being one of them.

Miller, who can play both at center and on the wing, comes to the Checkers with 133 points (50g, 83a) in 159 career AHL games. With 39 points this season, Miller instantly becomes Charlotte’s second-highest scorer behind captain Derek Ryan. Miller, who the Checkers acquired from Bakersfield, is in his third professional season since signing with the Oilers as an undrafted free agent from Yale University.

Jordan Caron – Pat Cannone – Danny Kristo

It’s no secret that any scouting report on the Wolves starts with the forward line of center PAT CANNONE, right wing DANNY KRISTO and left wing JORDAN CARON.

CANNONE, KRISTO and CARON rank first, second and fourth respectively in team scoring, recording a combined 52 goals (34 percent), 58 assists (22 percent) and 110 points (26 percent) and — as the numbers in the parentheses indicate –- figuring heavily in the team’s offensive production.

CANNONE needs 4 points to set a personal benchmark for points in a season and recently reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his professional career. Christ is 2 goals shy of reaching 20 goals and 40 points for a third-straight AHL season.

A high-energy skater with a strong work ethic, CARON has tallied a personal-best 14 goals this season. With 1 more point, he will establish the best season point total of his 6-year pro career.
