The Search To Find Mr. Movember Starts Today!

The Chicago Wolves participated in Movember to raise awareness for men’s health this November. Movember is a mustache-growing charity event that helps raise money for prostate cancer research and other male cancer initiatives.
Forwards Nathan Longpre, Michael Davies, Darren Archibald and Mark Mancari, defenseman Yann Sauve and goaltender Eddie Lack, among others, started the month clean-shaven and did not put a razor to their upper lip for the next 30 days. Wolves General Manager Wendell Young and the team’s broadcast tandem of Jason Shaver and Billy Gardner joined in and grew their best soup strainer. The growth of these individuals’ lip ticklers was tracked on chicagowolves.com throughout the month of November.
As decided by fan voting, right wing Darren Haydar was awarded the title of Mr. Movember!

WHAT IS MOVEMBER?
Movember is the annual, world-wide charity movement dedicated to changing the face of men's health- all through the power of the mustache.
Men start clean-shaven on Movember 1st, then grow their mustache for 30 days while raising funds and awareness for men's health, specifically cancer affecting men in the US.
Since its humble beginning in Melbourne, Australia in 2003, Movember has grown into a global movement, with more than 1.1 million participants raising $174 million to date. In the US, Movember raises funds for our men's health partners: the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrated their journey at official end-of-Movember Gala parties held in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Washington, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Health Statistics:
Movember's primary campaign objective is to raise awareness around men's health issues, specifically cancers affecting men. We want everyone to know that most cancers are highly curable if caught in the early stages- including prostate and testicular cancer. Movember aims to increase early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment, as this will ultimately reduce the number of deaths from cancer.
It’s time men face some startling health facts:
In 2011, more than 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer
In 2011, more than 33,000 men will die from prostate cancer
One new prostate cancer case occurs every 2.2 minutes
A man dies from prostate cancer every 15.6 minutes
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men
The incidence rates are significantly higher in African American men
Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in men
97% of prostate cancer cases occur in men age 50 and older
1 in 6 men will be diagnosed
1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, 1 in 3 women will be.
1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
48% of testicular cancer cases occur in men between the ages of 20 and 34.
1 in 271 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer during their lifetime.
