Wolves Drop IceHogs, 4-2

The win snapped a two-game skid for Chicago (38-18-1-4), which now holds a four-point edge on Rockford (36-23-2-3) – which has played three more games than Chicago - for first place in the West Division.

Mannino (19-3-0) posted 25 saves in his 11th consecutive victory, while defenseman Paul Postma (3A) and right wing Spencer Machacek (2G) paced the offense.

“It was a tough game. They were very physical with us, but we hung in there and held our composure,” said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever.

With the score deadlocked at two, Stewart collected the puck along the boards and drove into the IceHogs zone, before ripping a shot past Rockford goaltender Corey Crawford from the near circle with 36 seconds remaining in the middle frame.

Machacek bagged a shorthanded goal to give Chicago a 4-2 pad when he stripped an IceHog of the puck, walked into the slot and flung a shot past Crawford at 11:53 of the final frame.

Crawford (17-12-2) turned aside 29 of 33 shots for Rockford.

The Wolves got on the board first, 5:02 into the contest with a tally from Machacek. Crawford stopped Postma’s initial shot from the blueline, but Machacek was there to pick up the rebound and flip it into the net.

Right wing Jack Skille brought the IceHogs even, 1-1, with a power play goal 2:34 into the second period. The right wing took a pass from Bracken Kearns and roofed a shot between Mannino and the near post.

Defenseman Jamie Hunt gave Chicago back its lead, 2-1, at 5:54 of the second period. The blueliner wound up and cranked a long blast past a screened Crawford.

Left wing Bryan Bickell knotted the score again, 2-2, when he blasted a shot past Mannino, 10:14 into the second frame.

The Wolves travel to Canada for a matchup with the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
