ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Chicago Wolves failed to tally Sunday as they were shut out by the Charlotte Checkers 5-0 on Peanut Awareness Day at Allstate Arena.

Chicago goaltender Jake Allen made 27 saves for the Wolves (3-5-0-1), who were unable to figure out Charlotte netminder John Muse. Muse (2-0-0) kicked out 27 shots to post his second shutout in as many games this season.

“Tonight was disappointing,” said Wolves head coach John Anderson. “We played well in our past two games and I thought we were moving forward, but this was a big step back.”

The scoreless deadlock was broken halfway through the game when the Checkers (4-2-0-1) tallied on the power play. With Chris Porter in the box for boarding, Charlotte set up on the man advantage and got the puck to Chris Terry near the faceoff dot. Terry took an angled shot on Allen’s short side that snuck through his pads.

Charlotte took advantage of a Chicago defensive giveaway to pad its lead just four minutes later. As the Wolves set up to move out of the zone, Checkers forward Jared Staal stole the puck and sent a backhanded shot towards the net. Allen (3-2-1) made the initial stop, but was unable to snag the rebound shot by Nicolas Blanchard.

The Checkers iced the win with three goals in the third period. Justin Shugg and Brody Sutter notched power-play goals and Aaron Palushaj added a marker on a breakaway.

The Wolves kick off a six-game road trip against Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. Friday. The team returns to Allstate Arena on Saturday, Nov. 16, for a 7 p.m. matchup against division rival Grand Rapids. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
