The Midwest Division champion Chicago Wolves will open the 2014 Calder Cup playoffs with a best-of-five series against the Rochester Americans. The Wolves’ first game at Allstate Arena will be Thursday, May 1.
The Wolves, who have reached the postseason for the 16th time in their 20-year history, won their final four regular-season games to rally past Grand Rapids and capture the Midwest Division crown and the No. 2 seed in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference. Rochester (37-28-6-5; 85 points) owns the No. 7 seed.
The Wolves (45-21-5-5; 100 points) earned home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs and, due to the travel distance between Chicago and Rochester, N.Y., received the right to choose whether to host the first two or the final three games of the series.
The first two games will be played on Rochester’s home ice before the Wolves host Game 3 at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. If Games 4 and 5 are necessary, they are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. All games will be broadcast on The U-Too 26.2, XFinity 248, RCN 35 and WOW 170.
The Wolves and Americans split their pair of regular-season games, which included Chicago’s 6-2 victory on Feb. 28 at Allstate Arena in their most recent meeting. This is the first time Chicago and Rochester have met in the postseason.
