Barbashev reassigned to Wolves

April 30, 2015

Center Ivan Barbashev was reassigned Thursday from the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL) to the Chicago Wolves.

The forward was reassigned by St. Louis (NHL) and joins the Wolves following the completion of his season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Wildcats were eliminated in the third round of the QMJHL playoffs Tuesday. BARBASHEV registered 24 points (13G, 11A) in 16 games, ranking second in the league in postseason goals and third in points.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a career season in 2014-15, setting highs with 45 goals, 50 assists, 95 points, 59 penalty minutes, and a +16 plus/minus rating in 57 games. He ranked fourth in the QMJHL for goals and seventh for points while serving as an alternate captain for the Wildcats. Additionally he captured a sliver medal with Team Russia at the World Junior Championship, posting six points (3G, 3A) in seven games and improving on the bronze medal he helped them win the year prior.

The Moscow, Russia, native accrued 225 points (88G, 137A), 122 penalty minutes, and a +14 plus/minus rating in 173 career QMJHL games, all with Moncton (2012-15). He has contributed 37 points (18G, 19A) in 27 playoff matchups spanning three postseasons. In 2012-13 he compiled the most assists in the league by a rookie (44) and, after notching 62 points in 68 games, was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team.

BARBASHEV was selected by the St. Louis Blues with their second selection, 33rd overall, in the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
