Tale of the Tape: Oct. 25

Friday, Oct. 25, 3 p.m. Allstate Arena

The Chicago Wolves return home Sunday afternoon after falling to the Rockford IceHogs 4-3 on Friday. The Wolves scored two third-period goals to force overtime, but the IceHogs outscored the Wolves 2-1 in the shootout to claim the extra point at the MetroCentre.

The Wolves take on the Charlotte Checkers on Breast Cancer Awareness Day, making this the second meeting in nine days for the two squads. When the teams battled on Oct. 17 at Allstate, Chicago came away with a 9-5 victory that represented the team’s biggest offensive outburst since Jan. 5, 2011.

Charlotte is in the middle of a 10-game road trip to start the season because the Checkers are putting the finishing touches on their restored arena. Charlotte won’t play its home opener until Saturday, Nov. 7.

50: DANNY KRISTO scored his 50th AHL goal on Friday night at Rockford in his 150th AHL game.

Player Spotlight

#12 Pat Cannone – Center

Just call him Captain Clutch. The Chicago Wolves center has delivered 3 goals and 4 assists in the early going of the season, but he has a tendency to score when the Wolves need it most.

The 29-year-old Bayport, N.Y., native produced the game-winner in the opener on Oct. 10 and produced the game-tying goal with 4:58 to play on Friday night in Rockford.

During his two-plus seasons with the Wolves, Cannone has racked up 33 goals and 55 assists in 127 regular-season games. Perhaps most impressive, the Miami Ohio graduate owns a +41 plus/minus rating.

Derek Ryan is not hating North American hockey. The 28-year-old center recorded 15 goals and 45 assists (60 points) in 55 games for Orebro of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in 2014-15.

And he’s doing just fine in his first season with the Checkers, as well, putting an end to Charlotte’s two-game skid by tallying his fourth goal of the season with just 1:38 remaining in regulation to lift his squad past Grand Rapids on Friday night.

Ryan also added an assist in the 3-1 victory to bump his point total to six in his first six professional games in North America.
