Tale of the Tape: Jan. 8

Friday, Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m. Cedar Park Center

Chicago looks to stay perfect for the new year as the Wolves take a two-game win streak into Texas for a two-game set starting tonight at the Cedar Park Center. This weekend’s series marks the last non-divisional game for the Wolves, who play Central Division foes the rest of the season.

Chicago snapped a nine-game losing streak against Texas in their last meeting Dec. 17 at Allstate Arena. Chicago scored three times in the first period and appeared in control of the contest before the Stars stormed back with three goals in the third to push the game into extra time. After a scoreless overtime period, the Wolves scored the only goal in the shootout on JORDAN SCHMALTZ’s nifty backhander.

Shortly before the Wolves boarded their flight Thursday for Austin, head coach JOHN ANDERSON informed defenseman ANDRE BENOIT and center PAT CANNONE they had earned spots in the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic. Benoit was tapped once before (2013) while it’s the first nod for the Wolves captain.

By The Numbers

13: In each of the Wolves’ last 13 games, the team that scored the first goal went on to win the contest. In addition, the team that scored the first goal never trailed in those 13 games. The last Wolves game where both teams led was Dec. 4 at Grand Rapids.

32: ANDRE BENOIT TURNED 32 on Wednesday, joining D-partner PETER HARROLD (also 32) as the team’s elder statesmen.

34: Wins in a Wolves uniform for JORDAN BINNINGTON, which ranks ninth-best in team history.

82.3: Faceoff percentage for ZACK TORQUATO, who won 14-of-17 draws in the circle against Lake Erie on Jan. 3.
