Forwards Andrew Agozzino and Adam Musil — both former Chicago Wolves — each netted a goal as the San Antonio Rampage edged Chicago 2-1 Saturday night at Allstate Arena.
“I was happy with how a lot of our guys played tonight,” said Wolves head coach Rocky Thompson. “We played aggressively, we were hard on our forecheck. I thought we competed for 60 minutes. I thought their goaltender played extremely well.”
The Wolves (4-6-1-0) scored first as Brandon Pirri chipped the puck over a net-front scrum and goaltender Spencer Martin (6-1-1). The puck trickled down Martin’s back and over the goal line for the 1-0 Wolves lead at 11:21.
Just 2:43 later, San Antonio knotted the game 1-1. Rampage defenseman Jordan Schmaltz slapped a shot from the point that hit the post and Musil — standing in the slot — chopped the rebound chance past Kasimir Kaskisuo (2-4-0).
After a scoreless second period, San Antonio (9-3-1-0) broke the deadlock just 1:15 into the third frame. Following a Wolves chance, David Warsofsky corralled the rebound, zipped up the right wing and lasered a shot intentionally wide of the net. Meanwhile, Agozzino had floated to the far side of the crease and was there to bat in the Warsofsky shot in for the 2-1 go-ahead goal.
The Wolves continue action at Allstate Arena on Sunday, Nov. 12, against the Milwaukee Admirals. The Wolves and Admirals will face off at 3 p.m. in the second of back-to-back contests as part of Military Appreciation Weekend.
