Harry Zolnierczyk netted two third-period goals and Bobby Butler delivered in overtime to lift the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 over the Chicago Wolves Friday night at UWM Panther Arena.
The Wolves (4-9-3-1) held a two-goal lead until the third period with tallies from left wing Mackenzie MacEachern and captain Paul Thompson.
Chicago opened scoring 4:38 into the first frame as the Wolves won a neutral-zone faceoff and flipped the puck into the Admirals zone. Center Brandon Pirri collected the puck behind the Milwaukee net and pushed it to Thompson on the opposite side. Thompson stuffed the puck between Anders Lindback (10-3-0) and the post for the 1-0 lead.
The Wolves doubled their lead 2-0 at 3:32 of the second frame when defenseman Jason Garrison wired a shot from the left that MacEachern tipped into the net on his way through the slot.
In the third period, the Admirals’ Zolnierczyk scored twice — at 3:53 and 10:43 — to knot the game 2-2.
During the extra frame, the Wolves had several quality scoring chances, but Milwaukee (10-7-0-0) converted on its first shot. Butler squeaked behind the Wolves defense and zipped a shot past Michael Leighton (3-3-3) at 2:32 for the victory.
Lindback made 31 saves for his 10 victory of the season while Leighton stopped 22 of 25 shots in his Wolves debut.
Chicago returns home to Allstate Arena on Saturday, Nov. 25, for an Illinois Lottery Cup contest with the Rockford IceHogs. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on CW50.
