Macek, Wolves whack Moose

Manitoba 1 | Chicago 4
Macek scores two more and Dansk delivers 29 saves

Brooks Macek scored his American Hockey League-leading 11th and 12th goals as the Chicago Wolves earned a 4-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose on Saturday night at Bell MTS Place.

Veteran forwards Brandon Pirri and Stefan Matteau produced first-period goals to set the tone for the Wolves (7-3-0-1), who split the weekend series with the Moose (6-5-0-0). Center T.J. Tynan handed out two assists and goaltender Oscar Dansk (4-1-1) posted 29 saves.

Pirri put the Wolves on top 7:33 into the game with a nifty backhand lifted from just inside the goal line.

Matteau pushed the lead to 2-0 with a breakaway at the 14:56 mark.

Macek, who’s in his first year of North American professional hockey after spending the last five seasons in Germany, notched his 11th goal in as many games when he took a feed from Keegan Kolesar and wristed it past Moose goaltender Ken Appleby at 3:04 of the second.

After Manitoba’s Seth Griffith cut the margin to 3-1 early in the third, Macek slammed the door by settling a puck out of the air and blasting it home from the left circle at 11:17.

Appleby (0-3-0) stopped 24 shots for the Moose in the loss.

The Wolves wrap up their five-game road trip with a 10:30 a.m. game Wednesday at Milwaukee. Head coach Rocky Thompson’s team returns home Saturday, Nov. 10, for an Illinois Lottery Cup clash with the Rockford IceHogs.
