The Chicago Wolves scored the game’s first two goals, but the Milwaukee Admirals took over thereafter for a 7-2 victory before 11,794 on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena.
Forwards Daniel Carr and Tyler Wong staked the Wolves (8-5-0-1) to a 2-0 lead 16:12 into the game, but Milwaukee (9-4-3-0) answered just 12 seconds after Wong’s goal to stem Chicago’s momentum.
Anthony Richard and Eeli Tolvanen scored two goals apiece as the Admirals regained first place in the AHL’s Central Division.
“It was very humbling, for sure,” said Wolves head coach Rocky Thompson. “I certainly wasn’t anticipating what happened tonight happening. We’ll discuss it and we’ll regroup.”
Carr, who scored four goals against Milwaukee on Wednesday, opened the game’s scoring with a one-timer from the right circle at 12:23. Brandon Pirri and Erik Brannstrom set up his league-leading sixth power-play goal of the year.
Wong’s first goal of the year pushed the lead to 2-0, but Richard responded with his first of two goals. The Admirals pulled even in the first period, added two goals in the second and then finished the game with a pair of empty-net goals.
Troy Grosenick (4-2-0) posted 25 saves to earn the win while Oscar Dansk (5-3-1) stopped 20 of 25 shots.
The Wolves’ homestand continues on Saturday, Nov. 17, against the Iowa Wild and Sunday against the Manitoba Moose.
