The Chicago Wolves outshot the Manitoba Moose 40-23 in Friday’s matchup at Bell MTS Place, but couldn’t solve the Moose often enough and fell 3-2.
Forwards T.J. Tynan and Daniel Carr each tallied goals for Chicago (27-17-5-1) – Carr scoring for the sixth consecutive game — in the final contest of a four-game road stretch. Goaltender Oscar Dansk (16-8-1) saved 20 of 23 shots.
Michael Spacek, Cam Maclise and Seth Griffith scored for Manitoba (24-21-3-2). Netminder Eric Comrie (19-13-2) made 38 saves.
Tynan opened the scoring 11:48 into the first period with his 10th goal of the season, the seventh Wolves player to hit the double-digit landmark this year. Linemate Curtis McKenzie drew a penalty but kept with the puck to break into the Moose zone. He passed to forward Keegan Kolesar, but it bounced off Kolesar’s skate and deflected to Tynan, who took a quick swing at it to fool Comrie.
The Wolves led 1-0 at the start of the second period, but the Moose took over the lead with a pair of second-period tallies. Spacek scored 11 seconds into the Moose power play at 8:39, rifling a shot from the left circle over Dansk’s blocker. Maclise scored on a Manitoba rush at 17:40, tapping in a backhand pass from JC Lipon to give the Moose the go-ahead.
Griffith added to Manitoba’s lead 8:26 into the third after Logan Shaw drew the Wolves with him and then sent a pass against the grain through the Wolves crease for Griffith at the wide-open back door.
Carr put the Wolves within one at the 18:51 point of the third with Dansk pulled for an extra attacker. McKenzie collected a puck behind the Moose net and pulled attention to himself before before dishing a backhand pass to Carr right out front. The Wolves battled for the tying goal, but the Moose outlasted Chicago for the 3-2 win.
