The Chicago Wolves announced Monday that rookie defenseman Erik Brännström was recalled from loan by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights. The 2019 AHL All-Star then was included in Vegas’ trade-deadline deal with the Ottawa Senators that netted forward Mark Stone.
Brännström, 19, posted seven goals and 21 assists in 41 games for the Wolves this season. Selected by Vegas with the 15th pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Brännström became the 49th first-round draft pick to suit for the Wolves in the franchise’s 25-year history.
The Eksjo, Sweden, native earned a place in the 2019 AHL All-Star Classic, where he was the youngest player to compete in last month’s event in Springfield, Massachusetts. Brännström scored a pair of game-winning overtime goals during his tenure with the Wolves — the first on Opening Night in Colorado and the other on Feb. 17 against Iowa that triggered the team’s current four-game winning streak.
The Wolves go for a sweep of their five-game homestand at 7 p.m. Tuesday during an Illinois Lottery Cup clash with the Rockford IceHogs. Fans 21-and-over can participate in the next-to-last Craft Beer Arena Crawl of the season.
