Wolves push win streak to six

Texas 1 | Chicago 2
Carr delivers game-winning goal 1:04 into overtime

The Chicago Wolves rallied from a one-goal deficit late in the third period to force overtime with the Texas Stars before forward Daniel Carr scored his 30th goal of the season to seal the 2-1 win on Friday night at H-E-B Center.

Forward Keegan Kolesar scored the tying goal for Chicago (33-17-5-1) while goaltender Max Lagace (15-7-3) stopped 20 of 21 shots to help the Wolves to their sixth straight victory. The win also put the Wolves in sole possession of first place in the Central Division.

Adam Mascherin scored the lone goal for Texas (27-23-4-3) while netminder Philippe Desrosiers (6-9-1) made 20 saves.

Carr, who was named the AHL’s February Player of the Month earlier in the day, struck on the power play just 1:04 into the extra session to extend his career-high point streak to 12 games. Forward Curtis McKenzie skated the puck down the right boards before passing behind the Texas net to forward Brooks Macek. He rifled a pass up to the left circle where Carr one-timed the shot past Desrosiers.

Mascherin tallied his goal for the Stars on a first-period man-advantage, redirecting a shot from Nicholas Caamano past Lagace at the 12:29 mark.

After fighting through over 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Kolesar tied the game up at the 17:29 point of the third period. Defenseman Nic Hague skated in and around the Texas net before throwing a shot toward the goal. His shot missed, but Kolesar tracked down the rebound in the slot, turned and fired a shot past Desrosiers for the equalizer.

The Wolves stay in Cedar Park to meet the Stars again at 7 p.m. Saturday. Chicago’s next home game comes Saturday, March 9, on American Girl Night against the Iowa Wild.
