Wolves boost Central Division lead

Texas 1 | Chicago 4
Dansk posts 23 saves as Wolves mess with Texas

The Chicago Wolves scored three unanswered goals to secure a 4-1 victory over the Texas Stars on Friday night at H-E-B Center, finishing the regular-season series with a 6-2-0-0 record over the Stars.

Defenseman Dylan Coghlan and forwards Ryan Wagner, Keegan Kolesar and Tomas Hyka scored for Chicago (38-19-5-3) while forwards Curtis McKenzie and T.J. Tynan each picked up two assists.

Goaltender Oscar Dansk (21-9-4) stopped 23 shots as the Wolves pushed their Central Division lead to four points over Grand Rapids and Iowa.

Michael Mersch scored the first-period goal for Texas (32-28-4-3) while netminder Landon Bow (23-14-5) recorded 23 saves.

Coghlan opened the scoring at that 4:25 mark of the first period, tallying a power-play goal with a slapshot from the blue line that beat Bow’s blocker.

Mersch tied the game up at 5:41 during a scramble in front of Dansk, but Wagner gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission with his goal at 15:01. Coghlan rifled a shot in from the right point and Wagner tipped it past Bow for his first AHL game-winner.

Kolesar scored the lone goal of the second period at 3:44, capitalizing on a rebound to give the Wolves a two-goal cushion. McKenzie sent a shot in off Bow’s right pad, but Kolesar caught the rebound while swinging through and put it in the back of the net.

Hyka sealed the win at the 18:07 mark of the third frame, sending a shot from the Wolves zone and into the empty Texas net.

The Wolves travel to San Antonio for a 7 p.m. game Saturday. Chicago returns home on Saturday, March 30, for Salute to Military Families Night against the Milwaukee Admirals.
