The Chicago Wolves announced Sunday that goaltenders Oscar Dansk and Garret Sparks have been assigned to the team by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights. They’ll join the Wolves in time for Monday’s official start to training camp.
Dansk served as the workhorse for the Wolves’ run to the 2019 Calder Cup Finals. The 25-year-old Stockholm, Sweden, native earned 10 postseason wins while posting a 2.48 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage to backstop Chicago to its seventh Finals appearance in 25 seasons.
In 60 regular-season appearances for the Wolves over the last two seasons, Dansk owns a 40-12-8 record with 3 shutouts and a 2.45 goals-against average. He appeared in one game for Vegas during the NHL’s exhibition season and posted 36 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over Los Angeles on Thursday night.
Sparks, 26, is an Elmhurst native who spent all of last season with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. In his two seasons with the Maple Leafs, Sparks fashioned a 14-18-2 record with a 3.09 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.
Sparks also spent all or part of six seasons with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. In 2017-18, he led the Marlies to the Calder Cup championship with a 31-9-2 record and 1.79 GAA in the regular season and a 14-5 mark with a 2.22 GAA during postseason action. Sparks owns an 80-28-5 record, 8 shutouts and a 2.12 GAA in 121 AHL appearances.
The Western Conference champion Wolves open the 2019-20 season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Allstate Arena. The first 5,000 fans receive a 2019 Western Conference championship banner courtesy of Jewel-Osco.
