The Chicago Wolves announced Thursday that goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Max McCormick have been assigned by the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) prior to today’s 2 p.m. home game against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Mrazek joins the Wolves on a conditioning stint. The 29-year-old Ostrava, Czech Republic, native entered this season as Carolina’s top goaltender, but he has not played since injuring his right thumb on Jan. 30 against the Dallas Stars. Mrazek, who required surgery, owns a 2-1-0 record, a 0.99 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in four games for the Canes this season.
Should Mrazek be in net today, it will mark his first American Hockey League appearance since March 6, 2015 — when he played for the Griffins as part of his six seasons in the Detroit Red Wings organization. Mrazek posted a 54-27-4 record in 87 regular-season appearances for Grand Rapids and backstopped the Griffins to the 2013 Calder Cup.
McCormick has appeared in two games for Carolina this season. He produced 16 goals and 19 assists last year for the Charlotte Checkers (AHL).
