The Chicago Wolves announced Thursday that they’ve signed rookie defenseman Marc Del Gaizo to an amateur tryout contract (ATO).
The 21-year-old Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native joins the Wolves after helping UMass-Amherst capture the 2021 NCAA championship and reach the 2019 championship game. During his three seasons as UMass, Del Gaizo set the school record for career plus-minus rating (+61) while adding 20 goals and 38 assists in 90 games. He served as an assistant captain for the national championship team and twice earned Third Team Hockey East All-Star honors.
Del Gaizo was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by Nashville and signed a three-year entry deal with the Predators on Tuesday.
The Wolves own the American Hockey League’s second-best record and a healthy lead in the Central Division heading into this weekend’s games at Cleveland, whichs stand second in the division. The Wolves and Monsters are slated to play at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
