Join the Wolves’ Dec. 18 blood drive

During the holidays, everyone loves to give gifts. What could be a more generous gesture than donating blood — the gift of life?

For all of those eager to help people in need, the Chicago Wolves and Vitalant are proud to host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Allstate Arena’s Skyline Room in Rosemont. The Wolves face the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. that night, so it’s the perfect opportunity to donate and then enjoy a terrific hockey rivalry.

“Sometimes during the holiday season frenzy, it’s tough for blood donation to keep its spot on a to-do list,” said Greg Sprott, the Chicago Wolves’ Senior Director of Partnership Sales. “That’s why we’ve teamed up with Vitalant to make it easy for Wolves fans and so many others to donate on December 18th. We’re eager to make a difference for all of the people who need blood at this time of the year.”

Wolves mascot Skates will be at the Skyline Room to meet and greet donors. In addition, all donors will receive two ticket vouchers to a Wolves game of their choice, a limited-edition Vitalant/Chicago Wolves T-shirt, a Wolves hat and will be entered into a drawing to win an autographed Wolves jersey.

“Donors of all blood types are needed to end the critical blood shortage,” said Vitalant regional director Martine Williams. “The pandemic continues to impact the number of people donating blood. Donors with all blood types are critically needed, especially type O and platelet donations. Type O is often needed in emergencies and for routine lifesaving surgeries, cancer treatments and more.”

While walk-ins are welcome on the day of the event, the Wolves and Vitalant recommend everyone make appointments in advance. To schedule your appointment, visit Vitalant.org/Wolves and search for Group Code ORD0RS20. It’s also easy to make an appointment by calling (877) 258-4825.

Donors must be at least 17 years old – or 16 with parental consent. Please note that, in accordance with current CDC guidance, masks will be required for all donors, staff and guests.

The best donation preparation includes eating well, staying hydrated and arriving at the Skyline Room with proper identification. Plan on the appointment lasting about an hour, though the donation takes just 10 minutes. The entire process is both safe and comfortable.
