Wolves sign Williams

The Chicago Wolves announced Saturday they have signed defenseman Eric Williams to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).

The 26-year-old Williams joins the Wolves from the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals, where he contributed two goals and six assists in 20 games. The fourth-year pro has notched 10 goals and 27 assists in 107 ECHL games for Greenville, Indy, Norfolk and Utah.

The Newmarket, Ontario, native also has played a handful of games at the AHL level. Williams made his debut for the Charlotte Checkers (for whom Wolves head coach Ryan Warsofsky was an assistant), on April 11, 2019. He played two regular-season games for the Checkers, then also made two postseason appearances to help the Checkers’ run to the 2019 Calder Cup championship. Williams handed out an assist during Game 1 of the Atlantic Division Finals versus the Hershey Bears.

Williams joins the team in Texas, where the Central Division-leading Wolves will seek to extend their winning streak to a season-high eight games at 7 p.m. today against the Texas Stars.

The Wolves wrap up their five-game road trip Sunday, then return to Allstate Arena at 11 a.m. Thursday to face the Manitoba Moose and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, against the Milwaukee Admirals.
