The need for blood donations is never greater than during the holiday season, so the Chicago Wolves and Vitalant are again partnering to help others with a life-saving blood drive.
The Wolves and Vitalant are hosting the drive on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Allstate Arena Skyline Room. The defending Calder Cup champion Wolves take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7 p.m. that night so it’s a perfect opportunity to help your community and then enjoy an evening of hockey.
“Wolves fans pride themselves on being the first to step forward to help others and we can’t wait to see it happen again Dec. 17,” Greg Sprott, Wolves Senior Director of Partnerships, said. “This is an opportunity to make a dramatic difference in others’ lives.”
According to nonprofit services provider Vitalant, blood donations on average drop by more than 4,000 in December compared to the rest of the year. In fact, the last two weeks of December are the lowest annual donation period.
It takes donors of all blood types to meet all patients’ needs. Type O blood and platelets are most urgently needed. Type O can be used for most of the population and platelets, which are critical in helping stop bleeding, must be used within a week of donation.
All donors at the blood drive will receive two ticket vouchers to a Wolves game of their choice during the 2022-2023 season, a limited-edition Vitalant/Chicago Wolves T-shirt, a Wolves hat and will be entered into a drawing to win an autographed Wolves jersey.
While walk-ins are welcomed on the day of the event, the Wolves and Vitalant recommend that appointments be made in advance.
Donors must be at least 17 years old – or 16 with parental consent.
To schedule an appointment, visit Vitalant.org/Wolves and search for Group Code ORD0RS20. It’s also easy to make an appointment by calling (877) 258-4825.
The best donation preparation includes eating well, staying hydrated and arriving at the Skyline Room with proper identification. Plan on the appointment lasting about an hour, though the donation takes just 10 minutes. The entire process is both safe and comfortable.
Come to help save lives, stay for exciting Wolves hockey!
