UNGER SORUM WIELDING THE HOT STICK

In his second season playing in North America, Wolves forward Felix Unger Sorum is finding his comfort zone—on and off the ice.

The 20-year-old from Trondheim, Norway, is no longer the wide-eyed rookie learning how to cook meals while living on his own and trying to find his way around the smaller ice surfaces of the American Hockey League.

The season of experience is paying off big time during the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign as Unger Sorum has scored goals in each of the Wolves’ first three games to help his team race to a 2-0-1-0 record.

“I’m just going out there and having fun playing,” Unger Sorum said. “I’m trying to shoot the puck more and it’s been working. I’m just going to try and keep it going.”

Unger Sorum didn’t score his first goal last season until Dec. 6 and it took him until Feb. 7 to notch his third en route to finishing with five overall.

“Last year was my first time living home alone and learning all those things like cooking food,” Unger Sorum said. “I’m more prepared for this year and I can focus more on the hockey part.”

Unger Sorum appears stronger on the puck and in the corners and credits rigorous offseason training in his home country for the transformation.

“I worked hard in the summer trying to get faster and more powerful,” he said. “And I worked on my strength and took a lot of steps with that. It can translate to my game so I can get more situations than I did last year.”

Those situations include plenty of minutes on the power play and the result has been each of his goals this season coming with the Wolves holding a man advantage.

“I gained about five to 10 pounds trying to get more powerful so my strides can have more power and I can get more speed and space,” Unger Sorum said.

With three goals already under his belt, Unger Sorum said he doesn’t have a number in his head of how many he hopes to finish with this season.

“I’m just trying to go out and play and see where it takes me,” he said.

magnificent “michigan”

Wolves forward Bradly Nadeau is often one of the last players off the ice after practice, constantly refining his skills and experimenting with new moves to expand his already impressive offensive repertoire. Among those is the creative—and notoriously difficult—”Michigan” lacrosse-style goal.

While many players toy with it during practice, few have the confidence or precision to attempt it in a game—let alone pull it off.

So when Nadeau took the puck behind the net during Sunday’s game against the Rockford IceHogs at Allstate Arena, he spotted a rare opening and his elite instincts took over.

“The puck bounced off (Ryan Suzuki’s) head and then was flipped onto the side where their defender wasn’t,” Nadeau said. “I think it was just one of those moments where you kind of recognize that you can try it and hope that it ends up working.

“Earlier that week, I was actually practicing it for fun and it just happened that same weekend. The situation itself just kind of presented itself, and that’s why you try those.”

Nadeau had never scored a “Michigan” goal in his young career before but had tried it several times in pickup summer league games back home.

The goal circulated across the hockey world with nearly every top hockey outlet reposting or sharing it within their social channels. From the Wolves feed to the NHL’s and TSN, etc., Nadeau’s highlight play generated over 1.2 million views. It also clocked in at No. 5 on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.

“I didn’t have Wi-Fi in my apartment that night so I actually saw it a bit online the next day,” Nadeau said. “There were some buddies from back home who I played hockey with growing up who reached out and guys who I haven’t talked to in a while. It was nice to see those guys reach out and get to catch up with them.”

IMPACT NETWORKING PLAY OF THE WEEK

On Sunday at Allstate Arena, Wolves forward Ryan Suzuki capped a roller-coaster affair against the Rockford IceHogs with his first goal of the season, 2 minutes, 9 seconds into the third period. After a Rockford turnover, the veteran forward pounced on a loose puck and ripped a shot from just inside the left circle past IceHogs netminder Drew Commesso to the glove side for the unassisted goal and a 6-5 Wolves victory.

C.D.E. COLLISION CENTERS’ COLLISIONS OF THE WEEK

During the third period of Saturday night’s Home Opener against Rockford, Wolves forward Yanick Turcotte delivered this crushing hit to the IceHogs’ Dillon Boucher.

SAVE OF THE WEEK

Wolves goaltender Nikita Quapp came up big on an in-close redirect by the IceHogs’ Dominic Toninato during the second period of Saturday night’s contest against the Rockford IceHogs at Allstate Arena.
