Making a Difference: Wolves’ Annual Canned Food Drive

With the calendar flipping to November, the Wolves turn to one of their most rewarding charitable initiatives: The annual Canned Food Drive.

At all six of the Wolves’ home games this month (Nov. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16), the organization will be collecting non-perishable food items to support Common Pantry of Chicago, the oldest continually operating non-profit food pantry in the City.

When the Wolves learned about Common Pantry’s mission, it was a no-brainer to get involved back in 2021. Wolves owner Don Levin graciously delivered a $50,000 donation to help accelerate its future vision. The Wolves became the single largest unsolicited corporate donor Common Pantry had ever had since its inception in 1967.

“I think now, more than ever, it’s even more essential that we support those with food insecurities,” Courtney Mahoney, Wolves President of Operations, said. “We have an opportunity these next few games in November to really make a difference.”

From 2021-24, the Wolves have donated over 2,300 pounds of food to Common Pantry.

The Wolves are a family-oriented organization with their fans involved every step of the way. Having that continuity goes a long way toward alleviating problems within the community.

“Our fans are consistently amazing, whether it was supporting Breast Cancer Awareness last month to supporting the canned food drive and non-perishable food drives this month,” Mahoney said. “They come out and support their community and support what we support.

“We also try to pay attention to the causes that are important to them, and certainly now, we want to do our best to really support the food deficiencies that exist.”

The Wolves encourage all fans at each game to bring items to donate to be collected inside Allstate Arena doors and at the Chicago Wolves Charities Table behind Section 105.
