Illinois food families: growing your food with care

We are Illinois Farm Families and we want you to know more about your food and the people who grow and raise it. In Illinois, 96% of farms are family-owned and operated, not run by faceless corporations. Families just like yours are putting sustainably grown, safe, and healthy food on all our tables.

There are nearly 70,000 family farms in Illinois, growing versatile crops like corn, soybeans, and wheat, plus important proteins and nutrient sources like pork, beef, and dairy, and even specialty crops like pumpkins, peaches, and horseradish. What we grow and how we grow it looks different from farm to farm, but what’s true for nearly all of us, is that we’re doing this for our families. That creates an inherently strong desire to do it in a way that our families – and yours – can be proud of.
