The Chicago Wolves capped their two-game series in Texas with a 5-2 victory over the Stars on Saturday night, securing their first road win of the 2026-27 campaign.
Gabriel Seger, Evan Vierling and Juha Jaaska scored, Viktor Neuchev and Josiah Slavin each had a goal and an assist and Ivan Ryabkin had two assists as the Wolves rolled to a weekend split against the Stars.
The Wolves opened the scoring via a shorthanded goal with 2:04 remaining in the first period, as Seger capitalized on a costly turnover by the Stars’ netminder.
Brandon Halverson misplayed the puck at his net and sent a pass directly to Seger, who intercepted it and fired a shot into the empty net from center ice. Seger’s fourth goal of the season, and second shorthanded tally, was unassisted. The forward now has seven points (four goals, three assists) over his last five games.
The Wolves added to their lead with a two-goal second period.
First, Vierling tallied with 5:55 left in the second period with his second goal of the season. Neuchev took a shot from the bottom of the left circle, collected his own rebound around the net and fed Vierling in front where the forward jammed the puck between the pads of Halverson. Neuchev and Ryabkin picked up the assists.
Then with 1:27 remaining in the second period, Jaaska extended the Wolves’ lead to 3-0 with his second goal of the season. Jaaska, who returned to the lineup for the first time since Oct. 10, got his stick on a shot from the point by Felix Unger Sorum and redirected the puck past Halverson.
Unger Sorum and Skyler Brind’Amour earned the assists on the goal, sending the Wolves into the second intermission with a three-goal advantage.
Curtis McKenzie got Texas on the board early in the third period, but Neuchev quickly answered to restore the Wolves’ three-goal cushion.
Slavin took the puck hard to the net and Ryabkin found a loose puck in slot and chipped it over to Neuchev at the bottom of the right circle who blasted a one-timer that fooled Halverson.
Ryabkin and Slavin earned helpers on Neuchev’s third of the season and second point of the game.
The Stars kept pushing as McKenzie added his second of the period with a power-play marker to make it 4-2.
Slavin iced it with an empty-netter for the Wolves’ fifth goal of the night. Slavin’s second goal of the season came unassisted.
Zach Sawchenko (27 saves) got the win in goal for the Wolves while Halverson (21 saves) suffered the loss for the Stars.
Chicago moved to 6-6-0-1 on the season while Texas dropped to 3-8-1-1.
