The man with the ‘C’ on his Wolves sweater is returning.
On Monday, the Wolves announced that Josiah Slavin, who was named the 17th captain in the history of the franchise in Oct. of 2024, has signed a two-year, one-way AHL contract with the team.
“My family and I love the organization, we love the team, we love the coach–we love everything about it,” Slavin said. “There’s nothing but excitement to come back.”
The 2026-27 American Hockey League season, which begins when the Wolves travel to Manitoba to face the Moose on Oct. 3, will mark Slavin’s third with the Wolves. During that time, he has not only been a steady and reliable two-way player on the ice but a strong leader in a Wolves dressing room that is filled with one of the youngest teams in the league.
“I want to continue to help these young guys develop and get their NHL opportunities,” Slavin, 27, said. “It brings me a lot of joy knowing that as a leader I may have helped them in some way to get to their NHL debuts and just push them to be better players. That’s something I’ve really grown into the last couple of years.
“It means a lot to have the guys’ respect and their will to follow me,” the Erie, Colo., native continued. “It’s awesome in that aspect. It’s a really great position to be in.”
During the 135 games over his first two seasons with the Wolves, Slavin has 18 goals and 28 assists. In 2025-26, the forward had six goals and 19 assists in 69 regular-season contests and added three goals and four assists during the Wolves’ 21-game run in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Slavin said falling to the Toronto Marlies in five games in the 2026 Calder Cup Finals will provide fuel for the ’26-27 campaign.
“We all knew what could have been last year so I think we’re going into this season with a little bit of a chip on our shoulders,” he said. “We’re hoping to make another trip to the Finals and this time finish the job.”
Slavin also has another goal for the season ahead.
“I just want to continue getting better and having fun,” he said. “Last year was probably one of the most fun I ever had playing hockey and I just want to continue that trend. It wasn’t a hard decision to want to come back to Chicago.”
