CATCHING UP WITH … FELIX UNGER SORUM

Felix Unger Sorum put together a career-best 2025-26 regular-season campaign by leading the Wolves in points (66), assists (49) and games played (72). He capped that off by adding 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 14 Calder Cup Playoffs games. The Wolves caught up with the soon-to-be 21-year-old as he prepares for his third pro season.

AFTER A WHIRLWIND SEASON, HAVE YOU FOUND SOME TIME TO DECOMPRESS THIS SUMMER?

“I’ve been back in Leksand, Sweden, at my family home. Just been playing a lot of golf here and actually took a trip with my girlfriend to Ireland recently, so it’s been a great summer so far.”

HOW WAS IRELAND? HAVE YOU BEEN BEFORE?

“That was my first time and it was amazing. I liked the country a lot. There was lots to see and explore so it was nice for us to be there and take it all in.”

YOU’RE TURNING 21 YEARS OLD ON SEPT. 14. ARE YOU DOING ANYTHING FUN TO CELEBRATE?

“These last two years I’ve always been in the U.S. on my birthday, so my family and I would celebrate it like a couple of days before I travel. So no, nothing too special this year. Usually my birthday falls during the Hurricanes’ rookie tournament so I’ll try to celebrate there maybe.”

LAST SEASON WAS OBVIOUSLY A YEAR TO REMEMBER FOR YOURSELF AND THE TEAM. HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO REFLECT ON THE SUCCESS?

“It was a lot of fun. I just tried to go out and play my game every night. I put a lot of work in to get stronger over the summer and used it to my advantage [on the ice]. I definitely felt faster out there and more confident in my play with the puck. Of course, we had a really good team, which helped me a lot too. It just sucked that we couldn’t cross the finish line in the (Calder Cup) Finals.”

YOUR SECOND SEASON PLAYING PRO HOCKEY, WHAT WAS THAT EXPERIENCE LIKE PLAYING IN THE CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS AND INTO THE FINALS?

“It was really good for my development as a player to go through a deep playoff run like that, and we played a lot of important games and faced lots of adversity too. We had such a great group and every day was just so fun with each other. Like (Coach) Spiros (Anastas) would say, ‘Fight for another day with each other,’ and it was that mentality all the time.”

YOU PLAYED IN ALL 72 REGULAR-SEASON GAMES LAST SEASON. HOW SPECIAL WAS THAT ACHIEVEMENT FOR YOU, ESPECIALLY AS A YOUNG PLAYER?

“Yeah, of course. It was nice for me to play in all 72 games and have that trust from the coaching staff. You want to play as many games as possible, and to have the opportunity to play each day was fun.”

WHAT AREAS OF YOUR GAME DO YOU WANT TO SHOW THE MOST IMPROVEMENT?

“I think continuing to gain strength and speed is important to me. I want to use my shot more and work on strengthening that as well. I like to pass the puck, which of course isn’t a bad thing, but maybe have a more shoot-first mentality next season.”

WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT PLAYING IN CHICAGO?

“I just love the city and playing with this great organization. The fans were super loud last season and always came out to support us. Definitely excited to get back with the group and build off of last season and get better as a whole.”
